Newport Boys Win Baseball Title

I'm not much of an athletics fanatic, but when the Newport High team won the 4A Oregon Baseball Championship on Saturday I got pretty excited. Three of my Indian students, two freshmen and a sophomore, are on the team! This is the first state team sports championship in a long while (no offense, cheerleaders, who won 2005 & 2006). Meanwhile, Kate Bigelow won state in Golf, and another of my Indian students, Austin Ouderkirk, got 2nd in state in pole vault. Go Cubs!

Jesse's new truck

Jesse's 3/4 ton Chevy is definitely serious for mud. He's still waiting to get the new axel part so he can get into 4WD again.

Spring is really slow coming this year. Usually there's lots of skunk cabbage and daffodils blooming by now, and the first yellow violets. Those haven't arrived yet, but there are some signs of spring.

The FIRST robot constructed by Newport High was successfully shipped off yesterday, Tuesday Feb. 19. This picture was taken before the bumpers and final details were added but when it was fully functional.

Eclipse of the Full Snow Moon

The lunar eclipse was visible from here at Beaver Creek at about 7 pm, at full dark and when the moon was about 40 degrees from zenith, peaking from behind the leafless alder trees. Saturn appeared just below and Regulus just above the moon.

Wet Bottomlands

After getting about an inch of rain a day for weeks, it's miraculous there's any grass visible at all in the Beaver Creek Valley.
